4 months, solid foods, and more traveling

In February we celebrated Valentine's Day by taking Morgan to the doctor for her 4 month appointment. Shots!  Yuck!  I was prepared for the worst.  At 2 months she was sad the rest of the day.  But what a big girl now, she only cried for about 30 seconds!  What a relief.  Her weight gain was good, but the doctor suggested we start some solids if we wanted.  So for the past month we've been offering her some sweet potato and then rice cereal.

Luckily she's getting better at getting more food in her mouth than on her clothes.
Even sweet potatoes are better with a finger chaser.
 How adorable is that smile!
We love having her at the table with us for dinner.

For President's Day we traveled to St. George to hang out with the Powell side of the family.  It was great to spend time with Erin, Sam's fiance, for the first time really.  And I got my first taste of an apple dipped in oreo, white chocolate, and caramel!  Thanks Jenny for introducing me to that.  And thank you Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for making it!  Of course I never think of taking pictures of things like apples or shopping trips.  Just Morgan - here she is enjoying some time with Grandma Andrea.

She's gorgoues.  Why should I take pictures of anything else?

Sadly, Morgan went on bottle strike at the end of the month. Since she was 3 months old, she has needed some formula supplements.  I hated having to deal with bottles, but was glad my little girl could get the calories she needs.  Then a week ago she decided no more bottles, I absolutely will not let you put this stuff in my mouth.  For a couple of days I was okay with this, but then my mother's intuition kicked in and I knew she was not getting enough!  When we went in for a weight check, she had only gained one ounce in 2 weeks!  And the crazy thing - she wasn't even acting hungry.  She was totally happy and babbling and content just as always.  We got her back on a bottle by changing the formula and bottle-nipple, so fingers crossed, she will start gaining again.  We'll check her weight again next week to make sure.

If you've gotten this far in this post, thanks for sticking with me, and give me some encouragement if you will....I have decided one present for Morgan's first birthday is some weight loss for Mommy.  I've almost lost my pregnancy weight (which was only 23 pounds), but I was overweight before I got pregnant so my goal is to lose my I-got-married-and-we-love-to-sit-on-the-couch-and-watch-tv-with-cookies-and-milk weight.  My goal - 40 pounds - which translates to 5 pounds a month.  So far this month I am not doing a good job.  We go to the rec center, Morgan watches me from her stroller, and I've lost a negative 2 pounds, as Nate likes to call it, which let's face it, really means I've gained 2 pounds.  But I'll keep trying!

  1. Oh my gosh! Morgan is the perfect mix of you and Nate! The pics of her smiling...man I can see both of you so clearly! Don't get down on yourself about the weight loss. It took about 9 months for me to lose the baby weight and just now I am finally back to pre-marriage-eating lots-not working out weight :) It just takes time!

  2. That little girl just keeps getting cuter; you must be feeding her something right! Good luck with your goals. The sad this is, that as soon as you lose the weight you end up getting pregnant again and you have to start all over! Its a good thing these little ones are worth it!
